All in all you're just another brick in the wall
my voice
The hospital....it held many supplies.....and also many zombies. Leon stand on a small hill a few yards away above the walkers as they milled around aimlessly. Pulling back the string of his bow with a slight groan of the wire he began to take them down...one at a time. It would be more dangerous inside the actual hospital...close quarters...nowhere to hide. And since his last recruit had been bitten he had no one to watch his back. Notching another arrow he let it fly, striking an ambling walker right above the ear. It took about an hour for him to take them down one at a time...but it was the safest approach. Gremlin was back at the compound...tucked safely in 'his' RV. This little road trip did not seem safe for the little fellow....Hell....it wasn't safe for him. Pursing his lips he slid the bow across his back. Briskly moving down to where the dead lay. At each corpse he would stop, placing his foot on their back or their chest (according to how they fell) and yank his arrow from their rotting skulls. He wasn't about to waste these arrows, sharp as razor blades and straight instead of bent like most he found.
He moved up the concrete steps to cautiously push open the door....surprised when nothing rushed to meet him. Pulling his switchblade he flipped the knife out with a click, curling it against his wrist. Green eyes flicked from one first aid kit on the wall to another...all already ransacked... that was until he got to the ER....He could hear them already....groaning and banging against the double doors..an ominous pool of blood came from beneath the doorway, still fresh. Noticing a small storage room off to the side he carefully stepped over to it, lifting a booted foot he kicked the door open....Only to come face to face with someone....someone that did not stink of rotted flesh. He gripped his knife harder, eyes narrowing at the other scavenger. He had not come all this way for nothing.....and he wasn't about to leave whatever was in here for whoever that was. He brought his knife up in front of him, legs spreading into a defensive stance as the stranger turned around.....

You can wear a crown but you're no princess...
Mandy had decided to raid the ER for the old Vanderbilt hospital for many reasons. Medical supplies could always come in handy, she had a throbbing headache four out of seven days of the week with no anti inflammatory, and she wanted some antibiotics... The last thing she needed was for a stupid cut or scratch to get infected and THAT be what killed her off. She scoffed and rolled her eyes at the very idea, edging up closer to the building, her back against the brick wall. She knew before coming here that the place was teaming with the dead. She brought every bit of ammunition she had and her machete as well, knowing that if she made it out alive, it would be worth every bullet she had to use.
Poking her head around the corner towards the main entrance to the admissions desk, she saw only three walkers outside. Inside, however, there were at least twenty. Her eyes widened and she brought herself out of their sight. Her anxiety and fear rose. She questioned herself, doubted the choice she was making, and almost left. Eventually, she came to her senses. If it was one thing she was good at, it was sneaking past these suckers. She started looking around her immediate surroundings for a way in that wasn't the main entrance. Of course there were several windows. None that were close to her on the ground floor. The hospital itself was far too large for her to circle around and her feel comfortable about it.
She continued to look for a moment, edging towards the back of the building, her back never coming off of the wall. She eventually came upon what looked like an air duct. She crouched down and gave it a good yank. It came part of the way off but made an excessively loud noise. It startled her and began attracting the dead. "Shit, shit, shit." Her hands began shaking as she saw several of the zombies turn their head in her direction. Her initial plan had been to test this and see where it lead before going all in, but now she didn't have a choice and she would need to put the grate back on behind her. Seeing no other options, she climbed into the small space and hastily placed the covering back on. The sight of the undead fingers coming through the small holes made her stomach churn and her heart race. They weren't pulling on it, but instead pushing, locking it in place almost.
She let out a huge sigh and began to crawl away from the opening. She just prayed that this didn't take her into an overly infested room. Her nerves couldn't handle it. As it turned out, Mandy had several options to chose from. She did in fact pass over several rather infested rooms before coming to one that was 100% empty. It was a storage closet, but it was as good a place as any to figure out what the hell she was going to do. Taking the grate off, she lowered herself into the tiny room. No sooner had she put her feet on the ground and caught her breath, the door came crashing open. Out of instinct, Mandy withdrew her gun, whirled around and aimed straight for the head. When she was it was another person, she paused for a beat.
She remembered her encounter with another survivor. It hadn't been pretty. But she didn't have it in her to kill someone just because they scared her.

my voice When she whirled around there was already a gun in her hand, he stiffened. Torn between dropping down and sweeping his leg beneath her to make her fall, and actually trying to talk this out.....The later one he could definitely use more practice at.... But before he could decide there was a ominous groan in the hall...and the sound of shuffling footsteps. He eyeballed her for a moment longer before taking a step back and leaning back to see the lobby which had been full of zombies only now pouring down the hall in true undead fashion. He groaned, more annoyed than scared. He turned back to her, eyes narrowing on the gun. He could make it out of here ahead of them.....he was quick....But would she? He could hear them coming and made a split second decision that he could sick himself for. "Get back." He snapped and without waiting for her to answer he stepped inside the small room. He leaned towards her so that he could slip past the door that swung shut, not latching since he had broken the mechanism. With a heave he looked around, green eyes settling on a short little foot ladder. Yanking it from its designated spot he jammed it under the door knob, its rubber feet planted firmly against the tile floor. And then they were left alone....time ticked between them, Leon staring at her in an unconcerned manner....Hell....if he came all this way just to die in a closet with some female he didn't even know it would be a shame. But as he stared at her his eyes drifted up above her head to an opening in the ceiling. And a small smile crept across his thin lips. "Smart...." He said absently. But their only way back up would be to use the ladder...the ladder which was holding the door shut right now as an incredible number of undead passed by. She could have still been holding the gun up to his head and he wouldn't have cared, while people were most often more dangerous than the walkers outside she had hesitated......something that made him think she didn't really want to kill him. He was still looking at the ceiling, absently scuffing each boot on the floor in turn....leaving a fair share of dried mud behind. His long black curls fell messily around his face, facial hair scruffy and untrimmed. Shaving would often risk attracting a walker....a cut would mean blood. But on occasion he would shave....this was just not one of those weeks. Not that he cared what the woman in front of him thought....For the first time since his arrival he let his eyes skim over her. Was she a loner? An alpha? Definitely not a Brother.
As the silence ticked by he was left to wonder if the walkers had invaded another part of the hospital...or were just down the hall milling around. His best bet would be to slip through that hole in the ceiling....but that would mean one of them would be exposed for several moments as the other climbed up......
He yanked the ladder from beneath the door knob, handing it over to her with a annoyed look on his face. "Climb up."

You can wear a crown, but you're no princess...
Mandy was so shocked by his sudden closeness and his obvious irritation. Automatically, she pinned him as strange. She was still quite leery, but she didn't pin him as an immediate threat. She lowered her gun and looked at him as he quickly blocked the door. Already, she liked his quick thinking. They could definitely work together here instead of against each other. Plus, she was relatively weak and could not physically fight many of these things at once... The very thought of having to do so made her internally cringe. She watched him closely as he almost completely ignored her. Instead he was looking at the way she entered the building. His comment, in tandem with a small smile, made her feel strange. Almost proud, but not quite. Of course it was smart, if it wasn't, she wouldn't have done it. Granted, it had also been a very sudden move and could have been more dangerous than just killing the dead things off. If she had fallen through into a room full of dead... The thought made her shudder.
This stranger surprised her again by yanking the ladder and handing it to her. She gave him a perplexed look, but took the ladder from his and leaning it against the hole in the ceiling. As she began climbing as quickly as she could, she told him "All of the other ones I passed over were infested with the dead. We could go back and try and kill them off from the duct or keep going and see where we end up." She hurried and pulled herself through the hole, poking her head into the opening to look at him, her anxiety growing. The last thing she had wanted this trip to end up in was her own death. Her life was still top priority but she certainly didn't want to risk his. She pulled out her gun and took aim at the door. "I'll cover you while you climb." She told him, taking a breath to focus. There was enough room for him to climb on the other side, and she could slide back once he got close enough to pulling himself up. "Whenever you're ready." Her voice was steady, as she focused down the site of her glock.

my voice She moved, surprisingly not making a fuss or a reason not to. He waited until she was in the ceiling, gun aimed at the door as she signaled for him to come. He hesitated a moment, locking eyes with this stranger....and then with a final decision he bolted for the ladder. Boots banging loudly as he climbed. They were in the room immediately, many falling and being trampled by others. But he was quick, and her aim was steady. He pulled himself through the hole with a grunt, pulling the panel back into place just in case the zombies decided to try climbing. Now he was left with a total stranger in the pitch black dark. He blinked, waiting for his eyes to adjust a bit so that he could at least see the outline of her. He was crouching on his feet, knees bent and hands against the 'floor'. He looked from left to right, seeing little more than blackness . Shifting back towards the woman he was unsure exactly what to say....their meeting had been rather...strange....and short lived. But she seemed to be reliable...seeing as how she had her gun ready as he crawled up the ladder. Not that it meant anything....she could just be waiting to see what was in his bag before she killed him. The thought made him grin although it could not be seen in the darkness. "You gotta name?" He ask suddenly, shuffling a few feet towards her an accidentally bumping his knee against....something of hers. Or at least he assumed it was her...what else could be up here? His hand reached out to brush against whatever it was, his fingers feather light as he skimmed past her and started to crawl through the ventilation system. He looked back over his shoulder to see her silhouette.
"I'm Leon..." He supplied, as if remembering that he had not given his own calling. Manners...hah...what a crock. What good would they do any of them know? His fingers brushed cool metal and Leon stopped, leaning closer to peer through the tiny holes of a vent....trying to see if there was anything inside. He did this for several moments before lifting his palm to give the vent one good smack that sent it clattering to the floor below. Placing one hand on each side of the gaping hole he leaned his head and shoulders into the room....they above in some sort of a surgery suite....A long decomposed body still lay on the metal table....medical instruments abounded however and it was worth a drop in...never know when you might need some stitches....and one of those fancy curved needles would hurt a whole lot less than a sewing one. He pulled his head back in a slid forward to let his feet drop through the whole. Landing in a crouch, two fingers pressed against the floor to stabilize him. He backed up for the girl to follow....if she decided to. He wasn't her boss....but if she was looking for anything here like he was they had just hit a jackpot.
He turned around to begin gathering items, deft fingers finding thread, needles, scissors, ....and something in a glass bottle with a syringe beside of it...He read the name...and it didn't ring a bell. He slipped the syringe in his bag, careful to cap it first. " Hydromorphone ..." He said, turning around to see if she had followed him...."Don't s'pose you know what this is for?"

You can wear a crown, but your no princess...
The young woman felt a surprising amount of relief as he climbed the ladder, and covered the vent behind him. Mandy let a sigh of relief out that sounded louder in her ears than it probably was. It was beyond dark, and now that there was a stranger in the vent with her, she became acutely aware of that fact. In the darkness, her other senses were slightly heightened, she could hear every shuffling move he and his surprisingly even breathing. She put her gun back into it's holder. This stranger had allowed her to climb the ladder before him, therefore saving her life. Although, as far as he knew, she could fully handle herself. Her eyes began adjusting to the darkness, and she heard his voice before she could fully make out his face. "Mandy." What was the use in last names?
She stifled a gasp as she felt his finger tips lightly brush against her calf. Fully aware that it was because of the darkness, and he was just trying to move past her did not lessen the shock factor. 'When was the last time you had a human being TOUCH you?' She thought back and realized that it was probably before the world ended. She felt confused for a moment and then just let it go. It wasn't like it bothered her. It wasn't like he was trying to make a move. She was more confused by her reaction than anything. Shit happens. Mandy realized that.
The strange, intense man informed her that his name was Leon. She had always liked that name. Granted, she wasn't about to blurt that out, so she just smiled to herself. As he started to make his way past her, she followed him on all fours. She watched as he let another grate loose, look around and then lowered himself into the room. 'Must be empty. Or he's just stupid.' Sheepishly, she followed his lead, first poking her head into the room to confirm that it was indeed empty. Mandy then lowered herself, slightly losing her balance upon landing. Feeling a familiar pain, she sighed. It had been so long since she had actually done a stretching exercises that of COURSE her muscles were cramping. A slight frown held itself on her face as she reached behind her, grabbed her ankle and bent her leg to stretch the calf muscle.
Mandy watched Leon the Stranger for a while, he was picking up and pocketing what he needed. He asked her a drug name. "Hydromorphone? I think that's the chemical name for Dilaudid. Super strong narcotic pain killer." The only reason she had any idea is because it was something the doctors had prescribed to her mother after a knee surgery once. Her voice was tinged with a southern drawl as she spoke. She was only aware of it when she was speaking to someone who DIDN'T have a southern accent.
The young woman put her leg back on the ground and she began to search the opposite side of the room, checking for supplies. She found quite a few sterilizing agents, so she pocketed one of them. One of her most ridiculous fears was getting an infection. It was half the reason she came here. Every time she thought about it, she rolled her eyes at herself. Even though it was completely valid. Or was it. She shook her head, coming back into reality, still searching. Most of the medications in the surgical suite were injectiable, due to the fact that they couldn't give oral medications while a patient was under anesthesia. She grabbed a couple of suture and some hemostats. These along with the sterilizer eased her stupid fears.

All in all you're just another brick in the wall
my voice Mandy It was a simple name, short and sweet like they should be.....Leon never saw the purpose in these long drawn out names that made people sound like some medication..Speaking of which she quickly said what she knew about it, and he nodded. She truly was smart...something he was not accustomed to encountering. Most of the people still around were psychotic in all truthfulness. But now was not the time to think of such things. He watched as she released her leg from an obvious stretch and began searching the room, silently slipping his own prize into his bag. He could ask if she needed any, painkillers could be a blessing or a curse according to how they were administered. Too little and it didn't help. Too much and you were knocked off your ass for a few hours...dangerous for this day and age. She had an accent, southern. He had heard a lot of it lately. He didn't come from this area but after.....no...he wasn't going to think about that.
He watched as she picked up items and pocketed them, both out of interested and curiosity for what she had found. He was first and foremost out for himself. He had no one to look out for now...no members at the moment thanks to their own stupidity. He was still thinking and watching her when he leaned back, intending to let his hands settle on the 'empty' counter....With a hiss he spun around and grabbed his hand, blood poured from his wrist and a small scalpel hit the floor with a clang. "Son of a-" He broke off, reaching for a white towel that lay on one of the many trays. Pushing it against his wrist it was almost immediately soaked, red streaking through the white. Clenching his jaw he shifted so that his bag fell off his shoulder, crouching down he began to rummage through it for the needle and thread....though he couldn't really put pressure on it and do that at the same time. Briefly the thought occurred to him that he could ask for help...from Mandy. But he wasn't one to do that. Whether it be his pride or just his stupid lone wolf complex he didn't speak. Instead finally finding the needed items he stood back up...and swayed on his feet. He wasn't an overly tall person...but he wasn't short. And with blood readily pouring out of his arm he was finding it hard to control his legs. His vision began to blur, he grasp at the table but his fingers were like noodles....And then he hit the floor, his curly head bouncing with a sickening crack. "uahh..." He groaned, gripping desperately at his wrist. He couldn't move, couldn't speak, couldn't think....Rolling onto his back he was able to pull himself up against the wall, gritting his teeth and leaving a trail of blood as he did so. If he had came through everything just to die from slitting his own wrist it would be anything but poetic. He looked up where his needle lay, the thread hanging off the counter and swinging idly with each of his labored breaths. He curled his arm against his stomach and leaned over, completely forgetting about the other person in the room.....and the fact that right now she could kill him or save his life....

You can wear a crown but your no princess...
Mandy heard Leon suddenly become distressed. Before she had even turned around, she had her gun out, expecting walkers. What she found was even more surprising. Leon was bleeding. Not lightly but PROFUSELY. Her heart raced as she began assessing the situation. He had cut his wrist somehow. He had a towel to it and the towel was changing from white to crimson in just seconds flat. Luckily for him, Mandy had the proper items to stitch him up. Unfortunately, Mandy had no clue how to do it properly. But, instead of worrying about what she didn't know how to do, she called to him as he fell on the floor. "Hang on Leon! I'm gonna secure the room. I'll stitch you up." Her eyes began to scan the room for something she could use to block the two double doors. Even though there were no walkers currently present, the smell of Leon's blood would surely attract them like flies to honey.
Her light eyes landed on the surgery table with the decaying corpse and knew that was her best choice for the moment. She was also trying to find something that she could either tie or bar the door shut with. As she was rolling the dead body on the table over to the door, she saw an old surgery outfit. It wasn't strong, but she could use to it tie the handles of the two doors together, making it a little harder to get in. 'I gotta act fast.' Her adrenaline caused her mind to focus very clearly on the task at hand. After she placed the cart against the door she grabbed the surgery outfit and tied it as tightly as she could through the two handles.
Not wasting anymore time, she ran over to Leon, who was barely conscious at this point. She pulled the hemostat and the suture from her pockets, got them set as best as she could manage. "This is gonna hurt like hell, Leon. I'm sorry." Mandy, who was being less than ginger at this point, removed the towel he had used to cover his wrist and and angled it just so she could look at it. The lighting was shit, so she knew the scar was going to be ugly, but that's not what mattered. She cleansed the wound with the antibacterial solution from her stash and dumped it into the wound. She was surprised that it wasn't nearly as deep as she had anticipated. It was still going to need these stitches she was about to do, but it gave her great relief to know that he was just a bleeder. Maybe his blood pressure was high? She shook the thoughts and set to work. She almost hoped he would be completely out by the time she had to put the needle through his skin without any pain medication.

He could vaguely see a blurry form moving towards him. His muscles tightened instinctively but it was no use he immediately slumped back against the counter. He felt something pull at his arm, pulling away the wet towel. He tried to resist but accomplished little more than a groan....and then he felt a pin prick pain in his wrist, a pulling sensation...and then everything went black.....
~
It was another time....he sat on his front porch watching his son run around trying to catch fireflies with a glass jar and lid. Gremlin was tiny then..barely as big as a can. And he ran after the youngster, yapping in that high pitched bark that Leon hated so much. But despite himself he couldn't help but smile as he watched the two of them.....And then everything changed. The sky went dark and his curly headed son shrieked. Suddenly they were in a sea of abandoned cars. His son trudging beside him, his little cowboy boots making a slight clicking sound on the blacktop. He looked over at the boy, then to his watch....and then he heard a scream....the groan of a zombie...the panicked yelping of Gremlin as the youngster fell on him. He couldn't cut off his sons leg...couldn't cause the child so much pain...and cripple him in such an unfriendly world....With tears in his eyes he watched his only son turn, ending his second life as quickly as it had begun...
~
He awoke to a strange sensation in his wrist...a moistness in his eyes. He felt weak...useless....but looking down at the floor around him he felt his heart rate quicken...and then his eyes settled on his wrist...the jagged line of stitches that ran across it....Who?...And then he remembered... Mandy. Shifting his weight he looked around the room until his eyes fell on her, flexing his fingers as if making sure that everything still worked. "...you did this..." He said slowly, his tongue feeling too large for his mouth. Giving his head a forceful shake as if he could clear it his green eyes flicked back to his wrist. The slightly puckered skin around the sutures looked angry, but hopefully he would be able to find something in here to keep the infection down. The pain he could handle....infection could kill him. It took him several moments to grasp the fact that someone had saved his life....and he was honestly dumbfounded on how he should act. Slowly he stood, pulling himself up with his good arm....trying to ignore his protesting muscles.
"....thanks"
